About

I'm Patrick, based in Boston. I grew up in Wisconsin and have lived on the East Coast for over a decade.

I work in digital health for Boston Children's Hospital. My hobbies are reading science fiction, bike commuting, baking/cooking with my daughter, playing video games, listening to vinyl, and watching Liverpool FC.

This site is a home for my miscellaneous thoughts — monthly roundups of what I've been reading, watching, playing, and otherwise consuming, plus shorter observations along the way.

These are all personal views and do no reflect that of my employer.

Setup

My gear, software, and tools as of January 2026.

Hardware, Software, & Apps

My work setup is a pretty straightforward Windows laptop using mostly MS suite of tools & Slack. I spend 90% of my time in Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel. Firefox browser daily driver and Chrome/Edge for testing and viewing things as a non-power user. I’ve bounced between using ChatGPT and Claude, depending on which I feel supports research/brainstorming. In-office I use a Keychron K7 and a Ducky One One at my home desk.

For personal use, I run a M3 MacBook. For that, it’s a lot of Firefox, Obsidian, Google Keep,Google Suite, Ghostty, VSCode, and Claude Code. My Phone is a Pixel on GoogleFi and I use Signal for messaging my family on iPhones.

Bike Commuting

My personal bike is a 2009 Gary Fisher Arc Super road bike. Purchased for Madison, WI and surrounding area roads, currently struggling on urban potholes in Boston. I plan to swap this out for something more rugged with a steel frame.

My commuter is a Tern Quick Haul P9 with a Clubhouse mini. In non-icy conditions, this gets my kid to daycare and me to work beautifully. Can haul its share of groceries too. A+ bike.
